G. Randall Coleman
Music Director/Conductor
Boulder Concert Band
Now in his third season with the band, Randy Coleman has deep roots in
Colorado and in conducting. Born in Saguache, Colorado, in the San Luis
Valley, Mr. Coleman attended the University of Colorado, receiving his
bachelors and masters degree in Music Education. He began his career in
Boulder teaching instrumental music in elementary and junior high schools.
Prior to moving to California, he was the instrumental music teacher at
Baseline Junior High School and Fairview High School.
His California teaching career started in the Orange Unified School District
where he taught at all levels for 23 years. In 1988 he became the Coordinator
of Visual and Performing Arts in the Santa Ana Unified School District,
supervising 25 elementary music teachers and coordinating the secondary
visual and performing arts activities until his retirement in 2005. During
his career in California he became a qualified adjudicator and clinician
for the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association, judging
and serving as clinician for parade, field and concert festivals and competitions.
He served as guest conductor for several high school and junior high honor
bands and orchestras throughout Southern California
In 1971 the Orange Symphonic Band, an adult community band, was founded
with Mr. Coleman as the music director and conductor. He remained in that
post until his retirement in 2005. In addition he was music director and
conductor for the Covina Concert Band from 1990 through 1995.
Among his California awards are Outstanding Music Educator for Orange County (1990); Pacific Symphony Orchestra Outstanding Music Educator Award (1993), and City of Santa Ana Outstanding Citizen Award (1996).
